Is it OK for a cis woman to refuse treatment from a transgender gynecologist?
Petra De Sutter is a Belgian gynecologist and politician. Would it be OK for a cis woman to ask for another female gynecologist, if Petra was the one assigned to her?
I got the question over at tumblr and might have been a TERF trap. But I could not resist using this opportunity to reflect on the nature of racism and transphobia.
The DSM-5 updates its gender/transgender vocabulary in a positive way, but "autogynephilia" remains
I have also looked at the revised version of the American psychiatric manual, the DSM-5. It has improved its gender terminology, but “autogynephilia” is still there.
The term “desired gender” is now “experienced gender.“
The term “cross-sex medical procedure” is now “gender-affirming medical procedure.”
The term “natal male”/“natal female” is now “individual assigned male/female at birth.”
I have taken the liberty of publishing the introduction to the revised DSM-5 gender dysphoria chapter here.

Today The Washington Post has published a pretty decent article on the current transphobic language panic in particular and TERFs in general.
